Product Review: Objectivo Soccer Shirts

Another Germany-Wales match, another game too close for comfort for die Nationalmannschaft. The all-time series record stands at 8 wins for Germany, 2 for Wales and 6 draws between them. I don’t know what it is with the Welsh, but they punch above their weight when playing against Ballack and co. Germany needed all my support today, no doubt. But how best to show it?

That’s the vexing question for the fan of any team, club or country, that plays during midweek. While the unobtrusive scarf is the safest and usually stylish bet it’s not quite cold enough yet for that option. In the limited world of soccer clothing that really only leaves the jersey or kit.  For me that means my trusty Philipp Lahm #16 from the ’06 World Cup. Unfortunately, while my work’s dress code is fairly liberal they still frown on wearing a jersey in the office (whether that’s a company-wide anti-jersey or anti-Lahm policy was never made clear).

Thankfully, I found a happy medium in the form of an Objectivo Germany-themed shirt from Soccerpro. This vintage-style shirt features a large, faded black and red eagle styled after the country’s coat of arms. Unlike a shirt sporting a flag or Germany/Deutschland in script the understated design works in almost any situation. The shirt is light and breathable because it’s made from 100% cotton. Those are the pluses. One thing to note, however, is that while the neck and chest measurements are normal it seems as though the shirt’s extra long, comparable to at least a size larger than what you’d expect. That’s great if you’re tall (like me) and somewhat unfortunate if you’re not (like, well, Philipp Lahm).

Objectivo Germany

Those who aren’t familiar with the German eagle will still appreciate the look and their comments are the perfect opportunity to tell them of your passionate support. Personally, I wore it underneath a grey herringbone sports coat with jeans and couldn’t have felt or looked better. Oh, and don’t worry, Soccerpro has plenty of other Objectivo and casual soccer shirts (even Wales!) incase Germany isn’t for you.

Mark, unfortunately for me, I had always been among the shortest in my class back in school. So Lahm's height give people like me some 'hope'. ;) How short I am? If you put me next to anyone in die Nationalmannschaft, I will probably have to strain my neck just to look at the person standing next to me!

So much for once taking a class photo, I was almost being 'sent' to stand in the second row before I was asked to move to the front row. There is nothing I can do to my height. I don't think it runs in the family because my youngest sister has always been among the tallest in her class. Although my younger brother shares the same plight as me. Ha ha. Misery loves company.

Regarding the Welsh, I take it you use the competitive head-to-head records between them and Germany. Because from what I get from Reuters ahead of the match at Moenchengladbach…

'Although they have only beaten the Germans twice in 15 matches since they first met 40 years ago and never scored more than once in a match against them, Wales have drawn their last two competitive matches in Germany. In 1995 they drew a European Championship qualifier 1-1 in Dusseldorf and escaped with a 0-0 draw when they met them in Frankfurt in another European qualifier in November last year, although the home side were already assured of their place in the finals when they met.'

As to why the Welsh always punch above their weight against Germany, that I had no idea.

You know, I like the concept behind these shirts and admire some of the other designs, but I'm looking for something a little less “I'm about to march on your living room and destroy your flat screen” and a little more “Germany is a classic, like a Mercedes.” Plus, there's no Bayern shirt…

Diana — sometimes it's tough being a tall woman! Sure we may always be able to see the stage at a concert, but the dating pool is severely constricted! ;)

Okay, okay. That I know. :)

And somehow I felt even more 'smaller' today when my mother was just casually commenting that my younger sister is taller than me. Even if it means that I am shorter than her by a few centimetres, I wanted to prove that I am really shorter than my sister. After I stood side by side with my sister, I resigned to my fate. Boo-hoo. But then again, ever since my younger brother had overtaken me in the height department a few years ago, my 'ego' had been flattened.

It's always those small (er, ignore that) innocuous comments that seem to get people talking…

I am a Germany fan. The T-Shirt above should be white or green in color to match German football jersey.

This soccer shirt looks cool. I like the color and the German eagle design. I wonder what the Wales shirt looks like.

I like the shirt design. The eagle fits so well, though it doesn’t look like much of a soccer shirt. Maybe adding some color and design will make it perfect..thnks

The shirt looks very cool.
Has for being short well all we can do is accept it.It would be a boring world is everytbody was the same.
I am 3 years older than my sister and she is a couple of inches taller than me and still growing i think.I dont mind being 5’1 i stand out more and i am more outgoing than my taller friends.
