The race for the Bundesliga title is hotting up, with a number of teams in close proximity and fighting for superiority. Dortmund’s young side are starting to show why they won the league at a canter last term, with Mario Gotze the playmaker and catalyst for the impressive performances from the Signal Iduna Park side. Dortmund have the players to go to Bavaria and get a result, but Mats Hummels and the rest of the visiting defence must be disciplined and ready for a red onslaught.

Bayer Leverkusen v Hamburg
Leverkusen exceeded all expectations last year to finish second, qualifying for the Champions League and delighting the BayArena fans in the process. The loss of coach Jupp Heynckes to Bayern and star player Arturo Vidal to Juventus over the summer means Die Werkserf have lost some of their potency, but still have a strong side that can beat anyone on their day.
Hamburg finished 8th last season, but have started this campaign slowly and sit in the lower echelons of the table. Despite a huge fanbase at the Imtech Arena, the players have looked low on confidence and will need to improve against Leverkusen on Saturday 5th November. Rodolfo Cardoso’s men need to sort out their defence, as they have lacked leadership and organisation at the back.
VfB Stuttgart v Borussia Dortmund
Stuttgart have gave the Mercedes-Benz Arena fans something to shout about this term, as excellent performances from Bruno Labaddia’s men have lifted the team into the top three for the bulk of the campaign thus-far. The side is based around dominant defenders Khalid Boulahrouz and Matthieu Delpierre, whilst the 2006-07 champions have shown more cutting edge in attack than last season.
This fixture on Saturday 29th October, plus the away game against Bayern, will test Dortmund’s title credentials and Jurgen Klopp’s men will have to show some of the form from last season to withstand the advances of their main title rivals.
